Since its opening on 19 July 1995, InterContinental Singapore has become a distinctive landmark in the heart of historic Bugis. The hotel was voted 7th “Best Business Hotel in World” by Business Traveller, Asia Pacific 2004.
Shophouses along Malay and Malabar Streets were synonymous with merchants in the 1920’s and its early residents were the Peranakans, whose heritage dates back to as early as the 17th century. Their art and tapestry greatly influenced the décor and feel of the hotel’s 328 guestrooms and suites, and 75 units of Shophouses, which overlook Singapore’s first fully air-conditioned street and covered five-foot walkways.
